In fact, these aspects of soda are actually worse than previously thought. A recent study by the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that drinking large amounts of soda could have comparable damage on your teeth to illicit drugs like crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
While soda is a well-known food that damages your teeth, citrus fruits might catch you by surprise. Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit may be healthy for you and packed with vitamin C, but the acid content in these fruits is harmful for your teeth.
The enamel on our teeth is essential to the protection of our teeth, but the high acid content in citrus fruits can wear it down. Without this crucial layer of protection, our teeth become vulnerable to decay and even cavities.
Of course, you don’t have to avoid citrus fruits altogether. Just eat and drink them in moderation and be sure to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth after.
Another surprising food that can damage your teeth are dried fruits. In fact, dried fruits are comparable to sticky candies like taffy in both sugar content and their ability to get stuck in crevices. You might assume dried fruits are a healthy snack, but you would actually be better off eating the fresh version of these fruits.
